Let me tell you about the crazy dream I had because of an evening spent in front of some Mario coloring pages when, like any other kid in my generation, I was hooked on computer games. Me and my friends were staying extra hours at school to meet our dear friends Hercules, Jazz Rabbit, King Leon, Aladdin and the little mustache-wearing Italian brothers. I remember I even pretended to be friends with a girl I couldn’t stand, only to go to her house every weekend and play Atomic Bomberman.
Because we would play in shifts most of the time, I preferred short, stupidly-simple and childish-fun games to complicated ones, my favorite being Mario. When not playing, we would talk about how we jumped on fish and got the green mushroom, brag about how many coins we got, exchange strategies and so on. My parents have become really concerned with the huge amount of books, sketchbooks and crayons lying abandoned in my room.
One day, I was grounded and the computer was forbidden. Out of boredom, I looked trough the mountain of paper in the middle of my room and found my salvation: Mario coloring pages! I started coloring and solving all the riddles and mazes. I think I fell asleep at some point, otherwise I couldn’t explain a little turtle coming into my room from the window and asking me to ride on it. But when my feet touched its shell, I unintentionally jumped and cracked the ceiling with my head, lots and lots of golden coins falling from the roof. I jumped up again, and found myself in a strange, yet somehow familiar world, where on brick bridges suspended from the clear blue sky, Goombas and Koopa Troopa as well as animals resembling porcupines were coming towards me. I found myself eating a big, red flower and the next second, I felt incredible pains trough my whole body: I was growing, doubling my size! Blinded by fear, I ran, jumping on Goombas and shooting with incredible rage everything that was in my sight. Bloody pieces of porcupines were flying in the air!
I somehow tripped and fell in a huge basement where, in a corner, a huge moustache wearing plumber, dressed in red and blue, smoking a huge cigar and threatening with his plumbing tool two persons tied up: a man almost identical with his oppressor, but taller and dressed in green, and a girl: my, evil Mario was torturing Princess Peach and his very own brother, Luigi! I ran to save them, but just when jumping over an abyss of lava, I realized I didn’t have the force to reach the other side and suddenly I woke up.
After that dream, I tried to have fun playing again, but realized that computer games are not interesting enough for my imagination. And so, I started drawing and writing short stories again and never got bored of it ever since
